The clowns of the sea, Atlantic puffins are found only in the northernmost tip of Maine on Machais Seal Island in the United States. They are arctic birds, who spend much of their lives at sea alone. Their diet is mostly fish, which they catch by diving deep and staying submerged for up to a minute at times! These birds mate for life and meet to clean their nest site and breed in spring. Once the babies are hatched both parents take care of them until they are grown and they too venture out to sea for several years. On land they are fast flying birds but clumsy when landing or walking and a great bird to enjoy watching waddle around.
