Long Eared Owls

Long eared owls are a nocturnal owl that hunts over open ground searching for voles or rodents. Once the nightly hunt is finished it returns to its roost in dense pines and thick tree-lined fields. In the northeast they arrive during the winter and are a challenge to find with their skinnier bodies and excellent camouflage. They roost in a group or alone, but are not territorial and migrate after the season is over.
