Our national bird and the symbol of America and freedom, the bald eagle holds a place of honor in this country. Once almost completely extinct the species has made a huge comeback since being considered endangered not that many years ago. A large bird with a wide wingspan that is known mainly for hunting fish and snatching them from the water with great accuracy, they are also similar to vultures or other scavengers. They are opportunists and will eat whatever they can find, at times including dead animals and roadkill. They are found and have nests nearly everywhere in the United States since their comeback.
